Matt Zebley is a Grammy winning artist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, band leader, educator and the Director of Jazz Studies at Diablo Valley College. A unique, improvising artist and in-demand professional musician, he has performed at the Grammy Awards, Hollywood Bowl, Grand Ole Opry House, Montreal Jazz Festival, Caesar's Palace, Pori Jazz Festival, Rockefeller Plaza, Monterey Jazz Festival and Woodstock.
He has appeared on multiple TV shows including David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Jay Leno, Dancing with the Stars and Good Morning America. Featured collaborative performances include international stars, pop icons and jazz legends such as Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, Yusef Lateef, Dave Brubeck, Brian Setzer, Bobby McFerrin, Anthony Wilson and Wayne Shorter.
Zebley released his first solo CD in 1999 entitled Live at Moondog. It features original compositions and arrangements for three horns, bass and drums. The band continues to perform and provides an outlet for his acoustic jazz compositions.
Zebley earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from Berklee College of Music and both Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California. After initial appointments at USC and the University of California Riverside, he is the current Director of Jazz Studies at Diablo Valley College.
His current focus is on the convergence of performance, education and entrepreneurship.
